Body Lift
Introduction to a Lower Body Lift
A lower body lift is aimed at tightening the lateral thighs and buttocks. This plastic surgery procedure of the lower body is ideal for saggy bottoms and “saddle bags.” A lower body lift can be done alone or in conjunction with other body contouring procedures, including tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) or liposuction.
Dr. Pautler is one of the few aesthetic plastic surgeons in Pennsylvania to offer this plastic surgery procedure near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
About Body Lift
Body Lift Candidates
Weight loss is NOT the goal of a body lift. It is specifically used to remove excess sagging skin, tighten the remaining skin, and remove pockets of excess fat.
Because of this, a good candidate for this procedure is someone who has already lost weight, is now at their goal weight, and has been stable for at least six months. As a general guideline, your BMI should be no more than 30.
Patients who choose to have a body lift should be healthy and free of any medical conditions that could jeopardize their safety or recovery. Candidates for a body lift should be realistic about their aspirations.
Your Body Lift Consultation
At your body lift consultation, be ready to discuss your desired outcomes from surgery. It will be important to inform Dr. Pautler about any pre-existing conditions, pharmacological sensitivities, and past surgical procedures during the appointment. Usage of alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceuticals, vitamins, herbal supplements, and other substances must also be disclosed.
Dr. Pautler will perform a physical examination. This may include taking measurements of your body and taking photographs for reference.
Your body lift consultation will also include a discussion of the many body lift options you have. Dr. Pautler will talk about what to expect from the body lift procedure in terms of results, as well as the steps required for recovery and healing afterwards.
The Body Lift Procedure
Body lift surgery is normally carried out while the patient is under general anesthesia, since it is an extensive procedure. Dr. Pautler will make incisions, which may extend from the rear of the patient’s body around to the front of the thighs.
Once incisions have been made, superfluous skin will be removed using a scalpel. Fatty tissue will be removed using liposuction, and the underlying tissue and muscle will be pulled tight to complete the procedure. Once all tissue removal and tightening is complete, incisions will be closed using sutures.
Body Lift Recovery
Following a body lift procedure, some soreness is normal; this can be readily managed with painkillers as prescribed. After surgery, you must wear a compression garment and maintain a recommended diet. You will need around two weeks off work and four to six weeks of rest. You must wait six to eight weeks before resuming heavy exercise and other strenuous activities.
The swelling after body lift surgery should resolve in a few months. Post-surgical marks fade in a year and can be covered by clothing.
